New trademark of the RPG classic sparks speculation

That’s pretty exciting: Universal Entertainment has a trademark until shadow hearts activated in Japan. The not only good, but also quite expensive JRPG classic can only be played on old consoles until now.

As always, a trademark can mean all or nothing and fans shouldn’t hope too much for it. Don’t look forward to a remake, let alone a sequel.

But there’s a good chance we’ll soon be able to play at least the original on a modern platform. As is known, Sony will soon be launching the “new” PlayStation Plus and the “Premium” tier will also include PS2 classics.

Shadow Hearts was originally released for PlayStation 2 in 2003. There were also two other entries to the series, Covenant and From the New World. gematsu pulls out an old statement from Universal Entertainment that they had no intention of using Shadow Hearts in the future. That was in March 2021. PlayStation Plus Premium may have changed those plans, you hope.
