We should really expect a peaceful open-world adventure in the tropics this year with Tchia, but unfortunately nothing comes of it. Like the developer studio Awaceb reported on Twitter, Tchia will no longer appear in 2022 as originally planned. The game joins a series of titles such as Starfield or The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2.
Release only in 2023
In a short update on Tchia’s development status, Awaceb writes that the game has been delayed until early 2023. The title will then be released for PS4, PS5 and PC via the Epic Games Store. The reason the team gave was that, despite the three years of development the game had already taken, more time was needed.
The extra year should be used to put the final touches on the title and further refine every little detail. These details should make Tchia a very special experience.
In Tchia you can be anything
The special thing about main character Tchia is that she can possess all kinds of objects and animals. She can roll around the island like a car tire or work her way through the island’s sandy beaches like a crab. But even in the skin of Tchia it is possible to explore the island by climbing, swimming or sliding.
The island is based on the real archipelago of New Caledonia. As is typical for a tropical island, you can play the ukulele. When you want to play a song, a wheel with the different notes appears. During the story, you can unlock different melodies that can cause certain effects in the open world during gameplay.
