According to Toshihiro Kondo, the next installment will be inspired by Souls games

Falcom’s Ys series is very quiet at the moment. Ys IX: Monstrum Nox was released in Japan in September 2019 and the spin-off came to us last year. Toshihiro Kondo has now shown the first artwork for the next Y’s and talked to Famitsu about the as-yet-unnamed title.

The artwork shows that an “X” is formed by the attacks. Ys X wouldn’t be an unlikely title either. You can see a young Adol associated with a fighter.

In an interview with Famitsu, Kondo said he wanted to keep the gameplay fluid. However, one would also go beyond the books. Specifically, he mentions a planned Soulslike component, in which you have to keep a close eye on your opponents in duels. A light feel should be maintained though, Kondo calls it a “Ys-Soulslike”.

Adol would be about the same age as in Ys I and II. Changing characters would also work differently. There is no platform information yet, but you work for multiple platforms. In addition, Kondo generally wants to deliver something new, especially in terms of gameplay.

Kondo also expressed a desire to see older Ys games on modern hardware. But how concrete the plans are here is hard to say. Around the turn of the year, Kondo talked about several developments for the Ys series, which is currently celebrating its 35th anniversary.
