Square Enix re-releases Tactics Ogre. Fans of the original are of course very happy, because the remake also gets new German lyrics. If you don’t know the original, you can’t understand the anticipation. Square Enix therefore has a blog post published, explaining the classic and its innovations from the ground up.

Tactics Ogre is part of the Ogre Battle series that started in 1993. Ogre Battle: The March of the Black Queen was the first game in this series. Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together was released in 1995 for the SNES in Japan and in 1998 in North America for PlayStation. The PlayStation version also failed to make it to Europe, which was then reserved for the remake for PSP 2010.

Tactics Ogre: Reborn is also based on the 2010 version, which also gets numerous improvements in graphics, sound and game design. Backgrounds and characters have been redesigned in high resolution. The user interface has been redesigned and all dialogues are voiced. Hitoshi Sakimoto re-recorded the entire soundtrack with an orchestra.

There are also changes to the gameplay: the combat system has been revised by replacing the class-wide level management system with a unit-specific level system. Each unit now progresses differently depending on its class.

The AI has been overhauled, the combat is faster, there are auto saves and an overhaul of the controls. The blog post also offers a dissertation on the story. It takes place in the Valeria Islands, the jewels of the Oberozee. These islands were the center of maritime trade for a long time and their inhabitants fought for control of their own coast for a long time. Dorgalua Oberyth was able to put an end to this, he is known as the Dynast King. However, after the death of the king, civil war erupted, with three factions eventually vying for power:

The Bakram, recruited from the nobility of Valeria, the Galgastani, whose people make up the majority of the island’s population, and the Walister, of whom there are few.

The islands were soon divided between the Bakram and Galgastani, and an unstable peace arose over the land. But no one believes that the peace will last long…

visit the blog post, to get to know the acting characters. Or be surprised, because Tactics Ogre: Reborn will be released on November 11, 2022 for PlayStation, Nintendo Switch and PCs. Unfortunately, the Amazon-exclusive Steelbook edition is sold out, but you can also the standard version* pre-order.
