Touchscreen vs. non-touchscreen Dell XPS 13

Best response: A touch-enabled Dell XPS 13 is what you want if you want a 4K display. Without official pen support, the regular non-touch model will offer more value to most buyers. Instead, people who prefer touch or a pen should purchase the XPS 13 2-in-1.

Touch adds more to the price.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise, but getting a touchscreen-less Dell XPS 13 will cost you more money. The 1080p non-touch display is the default option, but for an extra $100, this can be changed to a 1080p touch version. These come standard on higher-end models in the range, though you can choose to specify it down to a 1080p on some models. The 4K touch display is now an option, as is a 3.5K OLED touch panel.

Whichever model you choose, Dell displays are of exceptional quality, with outstanding brightness and color reproduction on all models. The ability to tap on your laptop screen with your fingers does not add much functionality since even touch models do not officially support a digital pen. After all, Windows 10 isn’t the best operating system for touchscreen devices. Store and conventional desktop apps are generally better used with a keyboard and mouse pointer.

Most customers who purchase a Dell XPS 13 will use the trackpad or an external mouse more frequently, so there is a great chance to save money and do without the touchscreen. On one of the best Windows laptops, the savings outweigh the minimal use the touchscreen will likely receive from most users.

4K only comes with a touch

However, if you’re looking for a 4K display, perhaps for professional purposes like CAD or creative work, you’ll need a touchscreen. There is no choice for a 4K non-touch; however, you are not required to use it.

That’s a little disappointing because many people won’t want both. Dell could have done this while offering a more affordable 4K option. But the 4K display only comes with touch, regardless of whether you purchase the top-tier configuration or add it as an option.

The 3.5K OLED display also fits this description. A stunning panel that is only touch-compatible.

A better choice for Inking.

The best reason to own a touch-enabled Windows device at the moment may be a better option if you want to use inking with a digital pen. The XPS 13 2-in-1 is a convertible version of the XPS 13 with a fully-rotating display. It can serve as a tablet, a regular laptop, or something else.

With 11th Gen Intel Core i5 or i7 processors and the potential for Intel’s new Xe graphics, the internal hardware is also a little more impressive. It has a starting price similar to the standard XPS 13, making it a laptop that offers exceptional value.

The XPS 13 2-in-1 is gorgeous because it works with Dell’s Active Pen, allowing you to write and draw to your heart’s content. If you want a touchscreen on your laptop, the 2-in-1 model is the better option. It costs more, but it’s well worth it.
