Fans have been waiting to hear more about Deadpool 3. It will be the third movie in the superhero series starring Ryan Reynolds, and it will also be the first time the “Merc with a Mouth” appears in the MCU. When there was no news about the movie at Disney’s D23 event, it seemed like it would be a while before we heard anything else about it. However, only two weeks after the event, film star Ryan Reynolds took to his official Twitter page to give more than anyone could have expected: A confirmation that the movie would come out on September 6, 2024, and an announcement that Hugh Jackman would play Wolverine again!
Reynolds posted a video on Twitter talking about how Deadpool 3 didn’t make it to D23. The post also had a caption, “Hard to keep my mouth shut about this one,” which was a reference to his less-than-stellar debut as the title character in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The video showed a montage of Reynolds talking about how much thought and work went into making the movie because the character’s first appearance in the MCU needed to be remarkable. Reynolds has given it a lot of views, and he’s sure that… he has nothing. Only one thought. As Reynolds sits on his couch, Jackman can go up the stairs in the background. “Hey, Hugh, do you still want to play Wolverine?” “Yeah, sure, Ryan,” says Jackman, who doesn’t seem interested. Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You” is sung at the end of the video, but the word “You” is changed to “Hugh” as the Deadpool logo appears.

Three Adamantium claws cut through the logo, showing the September release date.
Reynolds and Leslie Uggams are the only confirmed actors for the upcoming project. Jackman will join Reynolds and Uggams on the cast. The script for Deadpool 3 is written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Shawn Levy, who worked with Ryan Reynolds on Free Guy and Netflix’s The Adam Project, is directing the movie.
