CD Projekt RED Confirms Cyberpunk Sequel and Three New Witcher Games

Recent articles

In a presentation, CD Projekt RED previewed upcoming games from the publicly traded developer. This shows that there are currently three games from the Witcher franchise in the works.

We’ve known for a year that former indie studio The Molasses Flood is working on a game set in the Witcher universe. CD Projekt SA, the parent company of CD Projekt RED, founded the studio in 2021. The new strategy presentation (PDF) lists this game as Project Sirius.

Project Sirius is still in pre-production and aims to provide an “innovative take on the Witcher universe”. An “unforgettable story for existing Witcher fans and new audiences”.

below ProjectPolaris CD Projekt RED lists in the presentation a “story-driven, open-world RPG” in the sequence of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. This game is still in pre-production. It was created by CD Projekt RED itself and currently involves over 150 developers. It’s the start of a “new Witcher trilogy”. All three games will be released within six years of Project Polaris.

Last but not least we have Project Canis Majoris. This game also takes place in the Witcher universe, but is intended for single players. It is explicitly a “story-driven, single-player, open-world RPG”. CD Projekt RED has commissioned an outside third-party studio to partner with former Witcher veterans. You don’t get more specific.

It’s unclear if the already-confirmed sequel to the Witcher series is one of these three projects. You have to assume that, given the huge plethora of future plans of the Polish developer.

The presentation also confirms Project Orion, no less than a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077. This game aims to “prove the full potential of the cyberpunk universe”. CD Projekt RED is clearly catching up here.

As if that wasn’t enough, CD Projekt RED also wants to expand with a third brand. Project Hadar is a new IP alongside The Witcher and Cyberpunk and is 100% in-house and still in the concept phase with a very small team.
