The Embracer Group has that Studio Onoma turned off just a few months after you bought it. Onoma, never heard of it? No wonder, because Onoma didn’t get many chances to make herself known.

If you follow the news closely, you know that Onoma is the former Square Enix Montreal. After Embracer Group bought western Square Enix Studios, Square Enix Montreal was renamed Onoma.

Bloomberg, where the case was first reported, estimates austerity measures as the reason. Phil Rogers communicated in a statement GamesIndustrythat they still have great ambitions with Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montréal. Closing Onoma was a difficult decision.

Square Enix Montreal was best known for the Go series. Somewhat popular mobile offshoots of well-known Square Enix brands were developed with Lara Croft Go, Deus Ex Go and Hitman Go.
