A mockery of Elon Musk .. and Twitter bans accounts

Twitter has banned a series of verified accounts whose owners have replaced their names with “Elon Musk”, in a move that ridicules the new owner of the social network, according to “AFP”.

Among the owners of these accounts is actress Cathy Griffin, whose Twitter page is followed by two million users. The actress not only replaced her account name with “Elon Musk”, but she also replaced the main account image with an image of the billionaire.

Tesla’s boss, who previously claimed to be an “outright defender of freedom of expression,” indicated Sunday that “accounts impersonating someone, without clearly stating that their move involves humor, will be permanently banned.” Additionally, YouTube activist Ethan Klein’s h3h3Productions account has been suspended even though the changes made were clearly funny, according to “AFP”.

Elon Musk, who is accused of personally interfering with decisions to ban accounts targeting him, responded to Kathy Griffin’s account suspension with a tweet sarcastically stating: “The account was banned for impersonating. an actress”. Griffin responded using his deceased mother’s tale, writing, “I came back from the dead to ask you to restore Cathy’s account.”

The #FreeKathy hashtag was spread on Twitter, used by many activists in their tweets, most notably “Star Wars” actor Mark Hamill.

Musk’s first decisions, after completing the $ 44 billion Twitter acquisition, were to lay off about half of the platform’s employees and launch a paid subscription service for verified accounts. With the new plan, users can pay eight dollars a month to get the popular network authentication token, which says the account is verified.

And Reuters quoted Musk earlier as saying the social networking platform’s mission is to become the most accurate source of information in the world. He has sparked controversy over how to achieve this and who will determine what is accurate. “Twitter has to become by far the most accurate source of information in the world,” Musk said Sunday. “This is our mission”.
