Parent company Meta confirmed to TechCrunch that WhatsApp had added a new feature that allows you to send messages to yourself, such as reminders and shopping lists. The “Message Yourself” feature, which WaBetaInfo first noted several weeks ago as part of a beta test, is now rolling out to iOS and Android users globally in the upcoming weeks.

When creating new messages after getting the update, you can see your name at the top of the contacts list. You can then send yourself notes, shopping lists, reminders, and anything else you might need to remember once you click that. The ensuing notification might ensure that your self-note is taken seriously if enabled. Users can pin their Message Yourself chats to the top of a conversation list for easier access.

Up until now, the only way to communicate with yourself was to create a group in which you are a member or use the “click to chat” function of the app, both of which are, at best unattractive solutions. The “Note already provides similar functionality to the Self” feature on the competing platform Signal. But rather than being available at the top of your contacts list, it’s buried there. As previously stated, whether on Android or iOS, you should see the feature within the next few weeks.
