Google will release the monthly software update for the Pixel phones on the first Monday of the month. It’s unique this time, though. This is the most significant Pixel Feature Drop ever, not just the most recent. Even some brand-new items for the just-released Pixel Watch are included!

Pixel Features Drop

So let’s get started. Owners of the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro can get VPN by Google One for free as part of the December Pixel Feature Drop. Including Google, the VPN is “built to help ensure your network traffic can’t be tied to your identity.” As for the Platinum plans, this service was already free for Google One subscribers. The Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro owners are welcome, regardless of whether they have a Google One subscription. The Google One app still allows you to use the VPN, though.

The Android Settings have combined the privacy and security settings. Action cards in this new section alert you to any security risks and provide simple steps you can take to make improvements.

Next, the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro’s Clear calling feature improves the other caller’s voice and lowers background noise so you can hear them even when they are in a noisy environment.

Each speaker is now identified and labeled, and line breaks are added when a speaker changes. This means that each person is given their label when you record an interview or meeting. Everything is done live during recording by machine learning. If anything is off, you can re-label speakers afterward if you like.

As long as your Fitbit Premium subscription has been activated (and will remain active), the Pixel Watch will support the Fitbit Sleep Profile feature. This is free for the first six months after purchasing a Pixel Watch. However, after that, you’ll have to pay £10 per month to access features like this.

With the help of factors like duration, consistency, and disruption, Sleep Profile provides a high-definition snapshot of your sleep quality at a glance. It suggests an animal that most closely resembles your sleeping habits. Based on your metrics, results will change each month. To get the results on the first day of the following month, you must wear your Pixel Watch to bed for at least 14 days each month for this to work. Better keep that charger handy, then.

Cough and snore detection is now available on the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro, and you can use them through Bedtime mode. A Sunrise/Sunset tile from the Weather app is among the new Pixel Watch tiles and wallpapers available. As opposed to this, the Contacts app now allows you to pin up to five Favorites contacts so you can call them and view their details with a single tap.

A digital car key can be shared with friends and family members who require access to the car and enables you to lock, unlock, and start a compatible car with your phone. According to Google, this is currently compatible “across Pixel and iPhone” but will soon be made available on “select phones with Android 12+.”

Additionally, Gboard now supports Grammar Check in French, and Live Translate now supports Arabic, Persian, Swedish, Vietnamese, and Danish text translations in messaging apps (on Pixel 6 and newer devices). An on-device search has become more potent on Pixel 4a and later devices. Voice Message Transcription is now available on Pixel 4a and newer smartphones.

Google also hints that pairing the Pixel 6, 6 Pro, 7, and 7 Pro with the Pixel Buds Pro and wired headphones will enable spatial audio in January. The December update may take days or weeks to reach all supported devices, as is customary with Google software updates. Don’t worry if you still need to download it.
