Apple is gearing up to unveil a consumer-oriented vehicle by 2026 with a target price below $100,000 to attract a broader audience.

Initially conceptualized without a steering wheel or pedals, resembling Canoo’s Lifestyle Vehicle, Apple’s project has been revised. The upcoming car will feature traditional elements such as a driver’s seat, steering wheel, and pedals, with the ability to operate in self-driving mode on highways, foregoing full autonomy.

Tesla, a key player in the electric vehicle market with semi-autonomous capabilities, stands as Apple’s major competitor. With Tesla models ranging from around $47,000 to well over $100,000, Apple’s car, priced near $100,000, will compete directly with Tesla’s higher-end Model S.

While the initial plan estimated a price exceeding $120,000, Apple aims for a more affordable option, likely due to the anticipated model’s limited autonomous driving features. Apple targets finalizing the Apple Car design by 2023 and feature listing by 2024, initiating testing in 2025, and a planned launch in 2026.

Apple is currently seeking a manufacturing partner for its car, with Volkswagen being a primary contender following preliminary talks held several years ago.
