Season 6 of 'Cobra Kai' on Netflix Will Be The Last Season

The streamer announced on Friday with a teaser video for “the series’ largest… worst” season. There is no confirmed release date; the trailer (see it below) merely has the phrase “coming soon.”

Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg, the show’s creators, describe the choice to terminate the series as “bittersweet,” but one that allows them to wrap off Cobra Kai in the manner they see fit.

It has been our modest privilege to reacquaint the globe with the Karate Kid universe, the three added. Making Cobra Kai allowed us to enter the revered dojo that the great Robert Mark Kamen, John Avildsen, Jerry Weintraub, and the rest of the fantastic original cast members previously called home. Additionally, it has allowed us to play sensei, extending the original plotlines and spawning a new breed of underdogs. Never once have we taken this chance for granted.

Cobra Kai debuted as a YouTube series during the service’s relatively short venture into longer-form scripted content, with original actors Ralph Macchio and William Zabka repeating their roles in the continuation of the Karate Kid movie franchise. It transferred to Netflix in 2020 after two seasons on YouTube.

When new seasons of the show are published, it consistently appears in Nielsen’s streaming charts and the top 10 internal Netflix rankings. After its September premiere, Season 5 lasted six weeks in the Nielsen top 10.

Cobra Kai will conclude as one of the longer-running shows on Netflix’s current lineup after six seasons and about 60 episodes. The only written programs for the streamer that have made it that long are The Crown (which is about to enter its sixth season) and the animated series Big Mouth.

Cobra Kai is executive produced by Heald, Hurwitz, and Schlossberg under their company Counterbalance Entertainment. For Westbrook Entertainment, Susan Ekins, Will Smith, James Lassiter, and Caleb Pinkett, in collaboration with Sony Pictures Television, executive produce. Additionally, EPs Zabka and Macchio.
