Baidu, A Chinese Internet Search Engine Giant, Plans to Launch a Bot Similar to ChatGPT

According to a source, Chinese internet search giant Baidu Inc plans to introduce an artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot service akin to OpenAI’s ChatGPT in March.

The service would first be offered as a stand-alone application by the technology company, according to the source, who asked to remain anonymous since the material is private.

The technology behind ChatGPT operates by studying enormous quantities of data to learn how to respond to user inquiries in a human-like way, providing the information like a search engine or even writing prose like a wannabe author.

ChatGPT excels in more professional skills like programming and essay writing, whereas Chinese chatbots now concentrate on social engagement.

According to the source, Baidu intends to provide chatbot-generated results rather than links when users do searches.

Baidu chose not to respond.

According to Reuters, Microsoft Corp. has considered raising its $1 billion investment in San Francisco-based OpenAI. To take on Alphabet Inc.’s Google, the business has also worked on integrating OpenAI’s image-generation software into its Bing search engine.

Beijing-based Baidu has significantly invested in AI technologies, including cloud services, processors, and autonomous driving to expand its income streams.

Last month, Baidu announced three AI-enabled “creators” that can act as a scriptwriter, artists, editors, or animators thanks to the technologies they use.
