To Avoid Confusion With the Upcoming Mac Pro, Apple May Delay the Release of An Updated Mac Studio Powered by the M2 Ultra Chip

According to Bloomberg, a newer version of the Mac Studio with the “M2 Ultra” CPU is unlikely to appear very soon.

To Avoid Confusion With the Upcoming Mac Pro, Apple May Delay the Release of An Updated Mac Studio Powered by the M2 Ultra Chip

Gurman stated that because the future Apple silicon Mac Pro is “quite identical in capabilities to the Mac Studio,” Apple may delay updating the machine until the introduction of M3- or M4-series chips or never upgrade it at all.

I wouldn’t expect a Mac Studio to be released anytime soon. The capabilities of the forthcoming Mac Pro and Mac Studio are largely similar; however, the M2 Ultra chip is included in place of the M1 Ultra processor. Therefore, it doesn’t make sense for Apple to simultaneously offer the M2 Ultra Mac Studio and M2 Ultra Mac Pro. More accurately, Apple never updates the Mac Studio or waits until the M3 or M4 generation. At that moment, it more clearly distinguishes between the Mac Studio, Mac Proom, and Mac Pro.

Gurman’s most recent comments are the most convincing proof that a new version of the machine is unlikely to be released anytime soon because there have been few rumors about the next-generation Mac Studio.

The “M2 Extreme” chip was dropped from the first Apple silicon Mac Pro. Instead, the 2019 model’s design and non-user-upgradable RAM were used. This information came to light last month. It is now anticipated that the gadget will only provide the M2 Ultra. This processor would have naturally been included in the Mac Studio of the next generation.

The recently released M2 Max chip, which is presently only available in the 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro, will almost certainly be doubled in power by the M2 Ultra chip. Apple’s decision to postpone updating the Mac Studio’s hardware may make sense until it can develop a better plan for the machine’s location in the future, especially with reduced modularity and comparable performance on the impending Mac Pro.
