An insider in the industry predicts that Sony will hold a PlayStation State of Play broadcast within the next month or two.
According to Jeff Grubb on the recent Game Mess Decides podcast, Sony is gearing up to showcase more of its upcoming games. Grubb shared this information during an interview with GamesBeat’s Mike Minotti.
Grubb hinted at an upcoming State of Play presentation with the promise of new game announcements.
In late January, Microsoft showcased their Xbox & Bethesda developer event. This week, Nintendo treated gamers to a Direct presentation filled with exciting game releases. PlayStation enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating Sony’s plans for the PS5.
Although the upcoming State of Play is a welcome development, Grubb advises fans to temper their expectations.
Grubb cautions against having overly high expectations, suggesting that the State of Play event may not be as grandiose as anticipated. “The State of Play is going to be underwhelming and understated.”
However, this doesn’t mean Sony won’t make any announcements for PlayStation platforms in 2023 and beyond. The company might be saving significant news for a potential summer PlayStation presentation. Sony has recently transitioned its key presentations to an online format, coinciding with the timing of the former E3 gaming expo in June.
As for the exact date of the upcoming State of Play event, Grubb has yet to finalize the details. He suggests that it might take place “a little sooner, maybe a month or so.” If this timeline holds, the event could be scheduled for early March or possibly late February.
While major game reveals may be delayed, players can look forward to experiencing many previously leaked PlayStation games. One highly anticipated title is Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, although the exact release date for 2023 has yet to be officially confirmed.
