Former US President Donald Trump posted on Facebook and YouTube on Friday for the first time since his accounts were suspended two years ago.
“I’m back!” wrote the former Republican leader, who seeks to run for a second term in 2024, along with a 12-second video excerpt from his victory speech after the 2016 election, in which he says: ‘Sorry to keep you waiting – complicated business ”, according to AFP.
“No longer restricted”
This comes after YouTube announced on Friday that it was ending Trump’s participation in the platform two years after it was banned following an attack by his supporters on the Capitol.
The American giant said on Twitter: “From today, Donald Trump’s channel is no longer subject to restrictions”.
While he justified his decision to reactivate Trump’s channel, stating that he had assessed the “risks of violence”, taking into account the importance that voters listen to “the main candidates on an equal footing”.
in January 2021
The candidate in the 2024 presidential election was reportedly banned from the social network in January 2021 while in power, against the backdrop of his supporters attacking the seat of Congress in Washington.
Most of the social media networks that enjoyed wide circulation at the time made decisions similar to the unprecedented decision of ‘YouTube’, including ‘Twitter’, ‘Facebook’ and ‘Instagram’.
Interestingly, Trump’s accounts have been reactivated on ‘Twitter’, ‘Facebook’ and ‘Instagram’ in recent months, but he has not used them and has continued to communicate with his supporters through his platform, ‘Truth social”.
