The Most Powerful Forms of Breathing in Demon Slayer Anime

In the anime series Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, a few breathing techniques that demon slayers utilize to protect humanity have been demonstrated, yet this merely scratches the surface of their capabilities. Each type of Breathing has a variety of forms. Still, the techniques have a wide range of potential applications and degrees of lethality.

The nine Hashira are the most powerful demon slayers in the Corps, each with a distinctive breathing technique. Each type of Breathing also has its unique forms, which the demon slayer has either developed on their own or learned from others, making them more powerful and adaptable.

      1. Sun Breathing

Soon, Tanjiro Kamado, the main protagonist whose voice is provided by Natsuki Hanae, will be able to utilize a power known as Hinokami Kagura, which translates to “Sun Breathing.” Demon slayers today use techniques like flame breathing, water breathing, moon breathing, thunder breathing, stone breathing, and wind breathing, all of which were developed from this most ancient and potent form of Breathing. It imitates the power and adaptability of the sun, which reduces a demon’s capacity to regenerate.

This respiration method remains a closely guarded family secret in the Kamado household. It differs from other styles in that its techniques are not organized into categories such as “First Form,” “Second Form,” and so on. They get their names from the movements that they perform, such as the “Dragon Sun Halo Head Dance.” Even though Tanjiro has not mastered it, he has started incorporating it into his Water Breathing. He claimed that, after channeling it, it expanded his skills much further than his Water Breathing.

      2. Moon Breathing

Moon Breath is a type of Breath that imitates and reproduces the moon’s movements, techniques, and abilities through the user’s actions and capabilities. Most known techniques and shapes are standard but variable sword techniques that rely on swift and strong strikes that always follow the shape and pattern of a crescent moon. If not all of the known techniques and shapes, the vast majority of them are.

This fencing is a superb blend of attack and defense, similar to Sun Breath. This is because of the tremendous variation in tactics used in these different forms of breaths.

It was discovered that Moon’s Breath, much like all of the other original types of breaths, sprang from Sun’s Breath. Michikatsu Tsugikuni, the founder of Moon Breathing, discovered that he could not master Sun Breath when he attempted to learn it from his twin brother, Yoriichi Tsugikuni. As a result, he was trained in a different type of Breath, which subsequently evolved into Moon Breathing. Yoriichi Tsugikuni was able to teach Michikatsu Sun Breath.

      3. Stone Breathing

One of the five primary types of Breath directly descended from Sun Breath is known as Stone Breath. One of Yoriichi Tsugikuni’s students came up with the idea for this Breath in the first place. He believed that if he had mastered Sun Breath, he would have been able to outperform Yoriichi.

The latter did not so much give them as teach and train them in a different individualized manner that centered on their strengths and weaknesses; this approach would later become known as the Stone Breathing manner. Who among the Army of Demon Slayers is considered the foremost instructor of this Breath?

      4. Water Breathing

Not only is Water Breathing a direct offshoot of Sun Breathing, but it also has three offshoots of its own: Flower Breathing, Insect Breathing, and Serpent Breathing. These are all forms that are utilized by Giyu Tomioka’s fellow Hashira. It is one of the Breathing Styles utilized most frequently and was developed by Sakonji Urokodaki. Tomioka, Murata, Sabito, Makomo, Tanjiro, and Aoi Kanzaki are all practitioners of this Breathing Style.

There are ten different techniques associated with Water Breathing, and the eleventh form, Dead Calm, was created and employed only by Tomioka. It has been demonstrated that Water Breathing is one of the most powerful breathing methods based on how its practitioners have developed it. This is true of other breathing styles as well. As Tanjiro works toward perfecting the Sun Breathing technique of his ancestors, viewers of the anime have already had the opportunity to see all the forms used.

      5. Thunder Breathing

One of the five primary Styles of Breath directly descended from Sun Breath is Thunder Breath. One of Yoriichi Tsugikuni’s students attempting to master Sun Breath was the one who first came up with the idea for this Breath. Despite this, Yoriichi was better than him, so he taught them and trained them in a different, more individualized fighting method that centered on their strengths and limitations. This style eventually evolved into the Thunder Breath.

It emphasizes directing force through the legs of the user. Jigoro Kuwajima is the primary instructor for the Demon Slayer Army’s members. The Breath of the Sun is the source of Thunder Breath, a particular form of Breath. However, other types of Breathing can be derived from thunder breathing, such as sound Breathing.

      6. Flame Breathing

One of the five primary types of Breath directly descended from Sun Breath is known as Flame Breath. One of Yoriichi Tsugikuni’s students attempting to master Sun Breath was the one who first came up with the idea for this Breath. However, because Yoriichi was better than he was, he chose to teach and train the Breath of the Flame in an alternate tailored approach that focused on their strengths and weaknesses. This allowed them to become the Breath of the Flame.

The student who discovered and perfected this Breath is a Rengoku family member descended from a very distant ancestor. Since then, this particular method of using Breath has been handed down through his lineage and taught to future soldiers of the Demon Slayer Army as well as his successors.

The Breath of the Sun is the foundation for the form of Breath known as the Breath of the Flame. However, variations of the Breath are derived from the Breath of the Flame, such as the Breath of Love.

      7. Wind Breathing

Sanemi Shinazugawa is the current Wind Hashira, specializing in an additional technique that is a direct offshoot of Sun Breathing. As a result of the fact that Beast Breathing is derived from Wind Breathing, this is the fundamental skill that Insuke Hashibira finally cultivates with a more honed sense of touch.

There are nine forms, ranging from the most fundamental dash and slash to one of the most powerful moves, the Gale – Sudden Gusts. Wind Tornadoes and various types of whirlwinds can be imitated using Breathing for largely offensive strategies.

      8. Sound Breathing

Sound Breathing is a form of Breathing that Tengen Uzui can only perform. This Breath employs a combat style known as “score,” which entails reading the movements of his adversaries and converting those readings into sound by understanding the rhythm of their movements. Because of this, he can capitalize on these openings to create a significantly more powerful effect by striking or otherwise interfering with the beat of a song.

In addition to that, he makes use of small yet strong demon bombs that are packed with special gunpowder and are capable of momentarily overpowering an Upper Moon. The Breath of Thunder is the parent ability derived from the Breath of Sound.

      9. Mist Breathing

The youngest of the Hashira, Muichiro Tokito, is a descendent of the Upper Rank One demon Kokushibo. He is also Hashira’s current leader. After only two months of training, he achieved the Hashira status.

The mist-breathing technique imitates the mists’ ability to veil and enable rapid strikes after creating a cloud of bewilderment. Mist Breathing can be performed in one of seven different ways, the first six of which were developed by Muichiro. One of the sub-styles of Wind Breathing is called Mist Breathing. The seventh form of Mist Breathing, known as Obscuring Clouds, is the most powerful application of this ability because it not only disorients its target but also protects them with a shroud of mist and hits them in the blink of an eye.

      10. Insect Breathing

Shinobu Kocho is the one who came up with the Insect Breath technique for Breath. Shinobu conceived of it as a means of compensating for his lack of physical strength, which prevented him from successfully beheading a demon. The primary purpose of this Breath is to cause several wounds on the desired victim by stabbing, pushing, and making shallow incisions with a sword that has been specifically coated and made. This is done to inject various harmful wisteria poisons into the chosen target.

Insect Breathing is a type of breathing style that imitates the stings and movements of insects, particularly poisonous ones. It does it by imitating the user’s actions, tactics, and expertise.

Most known techniques and forms involve stabbing, thrusting, and shallow cutting with a sword that has been specifically coated or made. This is done to cause several wounds on the target and inject them with various lethal poisons based on wisteria. When utilizing the method, practitioners of Insect Breath take on the appearance of various insects, most commonly butterflies.

Shinobu Kocho is the one who came up with this Breathing Style all on her own. She devised it to make up for the fact that she lacked the necessary physical power to decapitate a demon. As a result, she is the only one who can execute this particular sword style. She must do so with a one-of-a-kind katana with a needle-like point that visually and functionally resembles an insect’s stinger. Demons will be injected with Wisteria poisons using the “stinger” provided.

      11. Serpent Breathing

A breathing style that was developed from water breathing is called serpent breathing.

The user of the Serpent Breathing Breathing Style attempts to imitate snakes, particularly their slithering movements, by utilizing their movements, tactics, and skills like those of the snake. Most, if not all, of the known techniques and forms center on bending and twisting the sword in the same way that a snake moves.

The strikes are not direct but continuously slither and can potentially hit any place in the world. Users of the Serpent Breath technique see themselves accompanied by white serpents when they perform their moves and unleash their abilities.

Since Obanai Iguro is the only one currently capable of using this method, it can only be performed with a sword with a twisted blade and resembles an Indonesian kris sword. The Kris sword is a snake because of its body structure.

      12. Love Breathing

Demon Slayer features a significant amount of likable aspects of Hashira. Despite this, it isn’t easy to remain unmoved by the affection that Hashira Mitsuri Kanroji exudes. She is the Pillar of Love, and as such, she has invented a method of Breathing called Love Breathing. This method is an offshoot of Flame Breathing.

Mitsuri can achieve superhuman strength via the use of her Love Breathing technique without having any effect on her lean muscle mass or her nimble physique. Because of this, Mitsuri can deal with quick hits with a significant impact, which can cause significant damage to her opponents and catch them off guard because her body does not match the strength she delivers. Because Love Breathing works best with Mitsuri’s physical make-up, she is the only character in the series capable of using it.

      13. Flower Breathing

Flower Breathing is a style of Water Breathing developed by the previous Pillar of the Flower, Kanae Kocho, and her adoptive sister, Kanao Tsuyuri. Both of these women employ this form of Breathing Style. The Breath of Water is the foundation for the form of Breath known as the Breath of the Flower. Despite this, there are variants of Breath, such as the Breath of the Insect, derived from the Breath of the Flower.

      14. Beast Breathing

Inosuke Hashibira, a figure whose unpredictable behavior is spoken by Yoshitsugu Matsuoka, is the only one who can employ the Beast Breathing technique, which he developed from the Wind Breathing technique. This method imitates the way wild animals move about in the natural world. It is designed to be unpredictably primal and chaotic. Inosuke can see various claw-like cuts thanks to its ten “fangs,” which are also referred to as forms.

Inosuke came up with the idea for the Beast Breathing method while living in the highlands with wild boars. He is known for his erratic behavior and employs the “going wild” strategy when battling demons. However, he needed to keep an extraordinary sense of touch to stay in tune with animalistic senses. His battle with Enmu in the movie “Demon Slayer” clearly demonstrates this point.
