Tomorrow, the Deadites will return to their homes. After a bloody run at the box office that raked in over $100 million, Bloody Disgusting announced today that Lee Cronin’s ultra-gory Evil Dead Rise would be available for early Premium Digital Ownership and a 48-hour rental on certain digital platforms starting tomorrow, the 9th of May. This comes on the heels of a gore-soaked box office run that grossed over $100 million. Fans will be able to bring the terrifying film into their homes the next month with a 4K UHD Combo Pack, a Blu-ray Combo Pack, or a DVD, all of which will be released on the 27th of June.
The acclaimed horror franchise founded by Sam Raimi in 1981 and expanded upon by Fede Alvarez in 2013 is carried on with brilliance in Evil Dead Rise, which transports the Deadites to a brand-new location in the form of a high-rise apartment building in the middle of the metropolis. The film stars Alyssa Sutherland and Lily Sullivan as estranged sisters Ellie and Beth, who reconcile after spending significant time apart. The film occurs in the same universe as the iconic franchise veteran Bruce Campbell. As Ellie gets possessed, their time together swiftly descends into the depths of hell. Ellie’s children are forced to try to survive alongside Beth while fighting for their mother’s soul. Compared to earlier installments in the franchise, this one focuses more on being fun for the whole family. However, it is not suitable for families, as Ellie transforms into a terrible Deadite and uses terrifying violence toward her own children while also making fun of them and taunting them.
To suggest that Evil Dead Rise was successful would be to understate its accomplishments. As soon as it was shown for the first time at SXSW, critics were anxious about the horror franchise’s ability to return to its usual self. This adoration for the picture would be echoed at the box office, where it would outperform predictions and become the film in the franchise’s history with the highest grossing.
With Rise, Sutherland and Sullivan have established a new standard for female characters in the Evil Dead franchise. Morgan Davies, Gabrielle Echols, Nell Fisher, Richard Crouchley, Mirabai Pease, Anna-Maree Thomas, Jayden Daniels, and Tai Wano also support them. Campbell also made some cameo appearances in the movie, albeit he let Sullivan handle the chainsaw this time. Campbell continued to serve as executive producer with Raimi, even after longtime franchise producer Rob Tapert assumed responsibility for production.
Tomorrow, Evil Dead Rise will be accessible for digital streaming on various platforms, including Vudu, Apple TV, Google Play, and Prime Video. Fans will be able to acquire a physical copy of the game on the 27th of June, which is still over a month away. There has yet to be any announcement on the special features that may or may not be included in each edition.
