Additional details regarding the Nimona show on Netflix include the following:

Nimona’s Origin and Development as a Character

Nimona had a rocky production history up to the point where Netflix picked it up. Initially, the show was being created for Fox, and then starting in 2015, Disney took over the project. Blue Sky Studios, a part of the animation division of 20th Century Fox at the time, was the studio that initially produced the project.

Its initial release date was set for 2020 but was eventually moved to 2022 because of production delays. When Disney purchased Fox, production had already gotten off the ground. It was stated that Disney would close Blue Sky Studios in February 2021, even though the company already owns Pixar and Walt Disney Animation.

This has given rise to much conjecture over Nimona’s future. During that time period, personnel working on the project expressed their belief that the film “will likely never see the light of day.” Soon after, the word broke that the production of Nimona would be suspended, and the picture would not be made available to the public.

There have been murmurings about the resurrection of Nimona for several months. At the beginning of February 2022, Netflix submitted a copyright application for the word “Nimona.”

Then, one month later, it was reported that Netflix had acquired Nimona, and according to The Hollywood Reporter, production on the movie was restarted in the early months of 2022.

ND Stevenson posted the following message on Twitter in response to the announcement that Netflix had acquired the film:

“Nimona has always been a spirited little story that refused to end. She is a fighter, but she has some incredible individuals on her side fighting for her. I am ecstatic to let you all know that THE NIMONA MOVIE IS ALIVE…and will arrive at your doorstep in 2023 courtesy of Annapurna and Netflix.

What exactly happens in the movie Nimona?

Nimona is an adaptation of ND Stevenson’s best-selling graphic novel of the same name, which was initially launched as a webcomic in 2012 and then ultimately released as a graphic novel book in 2015. As was noted earlier, Nimona is currently available on Netflix. The plot of the graphic novel is summed up as follows in its official synopsis:

“Nimona is a young shapeshifter who tends to get into mischief because of her reckless nature. Lord Ballister Blackheart is a vile antagonist who has a grudge against someone. Nimona and Lord Blackheart are about to cause a significant amount of mayhem as both a sidekick and a supervillain. Their objective is to persuade the kingdom that Sir Ambrosius Goldenloin and his colleagues at the Institution of Law Enforcement and Heroics are not the heroic figures that everyone believes them to be.

But as seemingly harmless antics snowball into a bloody conflict, Lord Blackheart gradually concludes that Nimona’s abilities are just as cloudy and enigmatic as her history. And her erratic and wild nature may be more hazardous to him than he is willing to admit.

The following is the Nimona plot summary as provided by Netflix:

“A Knight is falsely accused of committing a crime that he did not do, and the only person who can assist him in proving his innocence is Nimona, a shape-shifting teenager who may also be a monster that he has sworn to destroy. This narrative is about the labels we assign to people and the shapeshifter who refuses to be defined by anybody. It is set in a world that combines technology and the middle ages and is unlike anything else attempted in animation.

Who will play what roles in Nimona?

Chloe Grace Moretz (Kick-Ass, Tom & Jerry), Riz Ahmed (Rogue One, Sound of Metal, Venom), and Eugene Lee Yang (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) are the three primary voice cast members for the animated series Nimona that is available on Netflix.
