The Complete DC Animated Movie Lineup for 2023

Recent articles

In 2023, the DC Universe franchise will continue its fruitful history of producing animated films, as evidenced by the multiple projects that have already been confirmed for that year. While many of the past live-action DCEU movies, such as Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League, have been met with mixed reactions from fans and reviewers alike, most audiences and critics have reacted well to DC’s animated flicks. The year 2022 saw the publication of six animated films by DC Comics, the most notable of which were DC League of Super-Pets, Batman and Superman: Battle of the Super Sons, and Catwoman: Hunted. This stand-alone story had no ties to any other universe.

The year 2022 saw the conclusion of DC’s “Tomorrowverse” with the release of Green Lantern: Beware My Power. The title is a nod to the upcoming film Superman: Man of Tomorrow, which will be released in 2020. It also refers to the new animation universe that DC Comics will introduce after Justice League Dark: Apokolips War. Now, six films are part of the Tomorrowverse canon, but that number is expected to increase in 2023. The Tomorrowverse timeline is not required for the animated films that will be released by DC 2023. The following is a list of the confirmed DC animated movies that will be released in 2023.

The Legion of Super-Heroes (February 7th, 2023)

The Legion of Super-Heroes_

In Legion of Super-Heroes, which takes place in the Tomorrowverse, DC’s new animated continuity, Kara (also known as Supergirl), is having trouble adjusting to her new existence on Earth. Kara’s cousin and tutor, Superman, advises that she go to the Legion Academy in the 31st century so that she might meet new people and a new foe. This will benefit Kara.

On the other hand, Kara has to deal with the threat posed by an unknown organization known as the Dark Circle, which is looking for a potent weapon stored in the Academy’s vault.

Batman: The Doom That Came To Gotham (March 28th, 2023)

Batman The Doom That Came To Gotham_

The comic book story arc that was adapted into the film Batman: The Doom That Came To Gotham was published by DC Comics. The comic book by Mike Mignola and Richard E. Pace, published in 2000, depicts Batman in a time-traveling adventure in 1928. In the video game Batman: The Doom That Came To Gotham, some well-known Batman antagonists, such as the Penguin and Mr. Freeze, are recast as characters from Lovecraft’s mythos. The animated feature Batman: The Doom That Came To Gotham is a solo film that will be released on Blu-ray and Digital media on March 28th, 2023. This film has no relation to the DC Animated Universe that is already in existence.

Justice League x RWBY: Super Heroes and Huntsmen Part One (April 25th,2023)

If you are a fan of RWBY and DC, you are in for a real treat in 2023, when the DC crossover event will feature a team-up between the RWBY Justice League and the Justice League from RWBY.

The Justice League is transported into the realm of Remnant in the crossover event Justice League x RWBY: SuperHeroes and Huntsmen, where they must ally with the heroes of Remnant to discover why the planet has been changed.

The Justice League will have a squad that includes Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Cyborg, Green Lantern, and Vixen (all in their youthful guises, because why not?). And any fan of RWBY will be familiar with the heroines of Remnant: Ruby, Weiss, Blake, and Yang.

Justice League: Warworld (TBD, 2023)

Justice League Warworld_

The entirety of the Justice League will debut in tomorrow’s world for the first time in the upcoming DC animated film titled Justice League: Warworld. In the next DC animated picture, which would be a sequel to Justice Society: World War II, the Justice League would consist of Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Martian Manhunter, Green Lantern (John Stewart), and The Flash. The film would also feature Martian Manhunter.

Given that he was a team member in Green Lantern: Beware my power, I am also anticipating the appearance of Green Arrow in some capacity.

True DC fans would not be surprised to find that the new Justice League movie will also feature Mongul, the leader of the war planet, given that the film title contains the word “Justice League.” Even though Mongul will most likely be the movie’s main antagonist, I won’t rule out the possibility that JL: WarWorld has a few surprises up its sleeve. The release date for Justice League: Warworld has yet to be determined.
