The Japanese anime series, which currently has a score of 6.7 out of ten on IMDb, is directed by Takaharu Ozaki and tells the story of what occurs when evil forces threaten to resurrect Anthrasax, the God of Destruction, and the Kingdom of Meta-llicana seeks the assistance of a volatile dark wizard.
Warner Bros. Japan Anime is responsible for the production of the series for Netflix. The first season became available on Netflix worldwide on June 30th, 2022.
After the first season was made available on Netflix on June 30th, 2022, the show lasted two weeks in the top worldwide 10s between June 26th and July 10th, accumulating 18.28 million hours of viewing time.
According to our information, it was the sixth most popular anime series in the top 10s in 2022, with Hunter X Hunter emerging victorious.
In July of 2023, the heavy metal and dark fantasy series BASTARD!! It will make its comeback with 15 new episodes.
On January 9th, 2023, the creator of the series, the producers, and the voice actors stated, during a live stream that could be viewed on Netflix’s anime channel, that the series will be returning for new episodes:
“As members of our generation who are fans of the original manga, we know that there is much more to come and that it can only get better from here. I couldn’t contain my excitement when I found out that the anime would be continued.
Since then, we have learned that the second season of BASTARD!! -Heavy Metal, Dark Fantasy- will be available on Netflix worldwide on July 31st, 2023.
Where does the second season pick up the story? The supplementary episodes will span volumes 8 to 12 of the manga, bringing the story to its conclusion at Hell’s Requiem.
In addition, Netflix has published an expanded plot summary for the upcoming second season, which reads as follows:
“The Dark Rebel Army, which intends to resurrect the god of destruction Anthrasax, continues to extend its strength in an attempt to conquer the planet, lead by the immensely powerful Four Divine Kings. Their goal is to establish themselves as the dominant force in the universe. The Dark Rebel Army, which a sorcerer leads, launches an assault on the Kingdom of Metallicana, located on the Central Metallion Continent. Tia Noto Yoko, daughter of the Great Priest, must decide whether or not she would resurrect the great old wizard who once plotted to dominate the world and is currently locked within her childhood companion Lucien Renren to preserve the kingdom. If she chooses to do so, she can save the land. The only thing that can break the spell is a kiss from a virgin to another virgin. Yoko presses her lips to Lucien’s as she runs into an immediate threat. At that very instant, dark and potent energy permeates the atmosphere.
During the live stream that was previously mentioned (which can be viewed here), the producer Tsuruoka provided us with new information regarding Hell’s Requiem. He stated that “The story goes well beyond the story depicted in the additional episodes,” and he also stated that “This storyline was the most popular in the manga.” The story introduces a large number of new characters, and it also shows the decisive confrontation between Dark Schneider and Kall-Su. Hell’s Requiem will consist of 15 episodes, each giving a certain aspect of this portion of the plot.
Tsuruoka, when asked how far along the production of the series is, replied, “Production started a while back, so we’ve recorded a lot of it already.” The production of the series started a while back.
