Disney officially announced that they had authorized the production of the much-anticipated third installment of the beloved film franchise, Hocus Pocus. In an interview with The New York Times, Sean Bailey, the head of Disney’s live-action remakes division, confirmed that the movie is underway. Fans of the series can now eagerly anticipate the release of Hocus Pocus 3 in the not-too-distant future.
In the original 1993 movie, three witches – played by Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy – were brought back to life on Halloween. Last year, a sequel was released on Disney+ that featured the same cast. The trio, who portrayed Winnie, Sarah, and Mary, discussed the possibility of a third film, with Midler expressing her desire for a franchise. She said she was envious of other actors who had franchises and hoped for a sequel to First Wives Club, but it never happened. After waiting thirty years for a sequel to Hocus Pocus, she was happy they finally made one. She would love to have a franchise, especially if it involves a character she enjoys playing.
Hocus Pocus 3 Cast
It’s difficult to predict who would return for a potential Hocus Pocus 3 and whether it will even happen, as it depends on the movie’s direction. However, there is hope as the actors, including Peak, Midler, Parker, and Najimy, have stated that they are not ruling it out completely. They will likely be involved if a third movie does come to fruition.
- Bette Midler
- Sarah Jessica Parker
- Kathy Najimy
- Whitney Peak
Will any other original Hocus Pocus stars Return?
The Sanderson Sisters and Billy Butcherson came back to life in the sequel, but Max Dennison, Dani Dennison, and Alison did not play the same characters again. We are still determining who might come back for the third movie, but Thora Birch, who played Dani in the 1993 movie, said she was asked to be in the sequel but couldn’t because of a conflict in her schedule. She might show up in this new installment if her schedule allows it.
When is Hocus Pocus 3 Release Date?
We don’t know when Hocus Pocus 3 will come out as of April 2023 because a sequel hasn’t been announced yet. Given that the original 1990s movie has a cult following, we think that if Disney were to make such an announcement, they would save it for the next Disney Plus Day, probably in the fall of 2023.
The beloved Halloween family movie, Hocus Pocus, has a sequel titled Hocus Pocus 2. The movie introduces a new generation of witches: Becca (played by Whitney Peak), Izzy (played by Belissa Escobedo), and Cassie (played by Lilia Buckingham), who eventually become a coven by the end of the film. The ending and post-credit scene of Hocus Pocus 2 also leaves room for the possibility of the original Sanderson Sisters – Winnie (played by Bette Midler), Mary (played by Kathy Namijy), and Sarah (played by Sarah Jessica Parker) – returning. While a third film has not been confirmed, fans hope for a shorter wait than the 29 years between the first two movies. Here are our best guesses for the potential release date, plot, cast, and more of Hocus Pocus 3.
What Is the Hocus Pocus 3?
The story can go in many directions if they make a third Hocus Pocus movie.
Whitney Peak, who plays the young witch Becca in the comedy, said that the ending of Hocus Pocus 2 hinted that the Sanderson Sisters might not be gone for good, even though they were gone for now.
“There is kind of a post-credits scene that leaves the door open, but you didn’t hear from me,” the Gossip Girl star told HollywoodLife. The scene after the credits show a box with the words “Black Flame Candle #2” on it. As we all know, this is the key to bringing back the Sanderson Sisters. Peak also said in her interview that the scene after the credits meant that “there could be a second black flame candle, and someone will have to light it.”
Another way would be to keep going with what Becca, Izzie, and Cassie, our new generation of witches, are up to. Whitney Peak joked in an interview with HollywoodLife, “Maybe it’s my turn to put some kids in their place.” In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, none of the three Sanderson Sisters (Midler, Parker, and Najimy) ruled out the possibility of a third movie. However, Najimy did say that she thought the ending of Hocus Pocus 2 meant that they “pulled every story you could” out of the franchise.
In Hocus Pocus 2, we meet younger versions of Winnie, Mary, and Sarah Sanderson. Taylor Henderson plays Winnie, Nina Kitchen plays Mary, and Juju Journey Brener plays Sarah. This is a short backstory for the three. Many critics have said good things about the young witches, so we could get a longer prequel about their early lives. As shown by all of their Star Wars shows, Disney Plus has always been bold in making a prequel or three.
