Bottoms: Release Date, Cast, Trailer and Plot and Everything We Know So Far

Emma Seligman’s next movie is a dark comedy called Bottoms, which will be shown for the first time at this year’s SXSW Festival. Shiva Baby, the Canadian director’s first full-length movie, was a big hit when it came out in 2020. In the same year, the movie was also chosen for SXSW and the Toronto International Film Festival, where it got a lot of good reviews from critics and audiences. Seligman based the story on her 7-minute short film, which she made in 2018. She put a lot of herself into the story and the main character, Danielle, whom Rachel Sennott plays. Since Shiva Baby’s main character was Jewish and bisexual, many people thought it was a new, interesting, and entertaining movie that showed Jewish and bisexual cultures in a positive and new way.

Shortly after the movie’s success, Seligman got a deal with HBO to make a TV show called Sugar, about a young woman who is a “sugar baby” in New York. Story parts from Shiva Baby will be used in the series pilot, written, directed, and executive produced by Seligman and Don’t Look Up’s Adam McKay. Her career keeps going in the right direction, especially since Bottoms came out this year. The movie is set in a high school, and Rachel Sennott and Ayo Edebiri (The Bear).

Is There a Trailer for Bottoms?

The highly-anticipated red band trailer for the upcoming film “Bottoms” was released on June 6th and has garnered significant attention from movie enthusiasts. The trailer showcases the movie’s unique blend of humor and risqué content, further solidifying its position as one of the most promising comedies of the year. Fans eagerly anticipate the film’s release and can’t wait to see what the talented cast and crew have in store for them.

What’s the Plot of Bottoms?

After the success of Seligman’s first feature film as a director, she was already planning her next one, where she and Sennott would play the main roles and write the script. She said it was a “campy gay high school comedy in the style of Wet Hot American Summer, but more for a Gen-Z gay audience.”

There aren’t many movies like Superbad or American Pie, which are funny coming-of-age comedies with crude or explicit themes led by women. Even rarer is seeing queer leads in these kinds of movies, which shows how committed Seligman is to including LGBTQ+ characters as she did in her last movie. In recent years, popular movies like Olivia Wilde’s “Booksmart” and Greta Gerwig’s “Lady Bird” have shown how important, relevant, and valuable it is to show female adolescence on the big screen. Bottoms will add to the variety of these wild and fierce comedies about women. Here’s what the official plot summary says:

Who is the Director of Bottoms?

British director S.J. Clarkson will be in charge of the film. She has worked on popular T.V. shows like Succession, Jessica Jones, Heroes, House, and Dexter. This will be her first time directing a full-length movie. Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, who also wrote Morbius, wrote the script for the movie. The first draft was written by Kareem Sanga (First Girl I Loved). The editor of No Way Home, Leigh Folsom Boyd, and the cinematographer, Mauro Fiore, are also working on Madame Web. The movie is made by Lorenzo di Bonaventura (Bumblebee). The film’s Executive Producer is Adam Merims (King Richard), and Palak Patel (The Gray Man) makes the movie.

Two unpopular queer girls in their senior year start a fight club to try to impress and hook up with cheerleaders.

Where is Bottoms Streaming?

Because the movie was made by Orion Pictures, which MGM Studios, Prime Video’s own will likely be the main streaming platform for the movie after Amazon bought M.G.M.
