The Blackening: Release Date, Cast, Trailer and Plot and Everything We Know So Far

The Blackening

The horror genre often has a stereotypical pattern where the Black character is the first to die. However, Lionsgate’s new horror-comedy film, “The Blackening,” takes a different approach by exploring what happens when all the main characters are Black. Based on a Comedy Central sketch of the same name, the movie follows a group of friends whose weekend gathering turns into a nightmare. Along with providing laughs and thrills, the film also aims to challenge some typical genre conventions. Directed by Tim Story and written by Tracy Oliver and Dewayne Perkins. To help prepare for its release, we have gathered information on the cast, crew, where to watch it, and more.

The Blackening 2 Release Date?

The highly anticipated film, The Blackening, is set to kick off on June 16, perfectly timed to align with the Juneteenth weekend. Fans will be thrilled to know that select theaters will offer early screenings of the movie, starting as early as Wednesday, June 14, in addition to the customary Thursday night showings before the official premiere. Moviegoers will want to take advantage of this exclusive opportunity to catch the film on the big screen before it becomes available in digital and physical formats.

Is There a Trailer for Blackening 2?

On March 1, the first trailer for The Blackening was made available online. It provided audiences with their first significant insight into the nature of the film’s content. It seems like an innocuous enough beginning, with the group of friends driving up to the cabin in the middle of the day, excited to spend the weekend together having a good time. Their enjoyment will be cut short as soon as the power goes out. This presents the group with their first opportunity to challenge the notion that just one person should figure out a solution to the issue. While searching for the fuse box, they discover the game and a terrifying message urging them to “Save Morgan,” whom they have recently learned is missing. As a result, they decide to participate in the game, which requires them to pick the Blackest player. The comedy in this clip comes from the fact that the group is in a precarious situation, but they’re still trying to figure out what to do. One friend is safe because he is gay, while another is trying to prove it’s not him (“I voted for Trump… Twice”). When the group is forced to split up to protect themselves and look for their friend, the more dangerous aspects of the narrative are depicted in the second half of the trailer.

On May 17, the second and final trailer for The Blackening came out. Unlike the last one, this one focused on how people reacted during previews. It starts with two friends walking down the hall toward a scary game room, where they and the rest of the group find the game. The trailer shows how the audience reacts as the tension builds and the reveal happens. Most of the movie footage was already shown in the first trailer, which kept cutting to the audience’s reactions at key points. Even though the second trailer tries to get people to see the movie, it does so in a way that says the more people who go, the more fun it will be.

Who is the Director of The Blackening 2?

The same people who made Girls Trip, Barbershop, and other movies made The Blackening. The story for the movie and the script for it were written by Tracy Oliver and Dewayne Perkins. Oliver is famous for writing Girls Trip and the scripts for movies like Little and the version of The Sun Is Also a Star. Oliver recently made, executive produced, and wrote for the second season of the Prime Video show Harlem, which started in February. Perkins has written for shows like The Amber Ruffin Show and Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Tim Story was in charge of making The Blackening. The story has made a lot of well-known movies throughout his career, such as Barbershop, Think Like a Man, Shaft (2019), and Ride Along. The Blackening’s score was written by Dexter Story (Eyes of Amhara), and the film was shot by Todd A. Dos Reis (Suburgatory, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend). Oliver, Story, E. Brian Dobbins, Marcei A. Brown, Jason Clark, and Sharla Sumpter Bridgett worked together to make it.

What Is The Plot of The Blackening 2?

A group of Black friends celebrate Juneteenth at a cabin in the woods. They stumble upon a racist game that turns deadly, forcing them to fight for survival. With an all-Black cast, the question is: who will make it out alive?

Official Plot

“Being able to take these tropes and find exactly what makes them complex, what gives them depth, and then forcing that in the movie so that when you start watching it, you see what has been in horror movies before and then the goal of the movie is to constantly break down your assumptions of these characters by constantly forcing depth.”

Is The Blackening a Real Movie?

I have exciting news about an upcoming film, “The Blackening.” This horror-comedy movie is set to hit theaters in 2022 and is directed by Tim Story. The screenplay was written by Tracy Oliver and Dewayne Perkins, both highly respected in the industry. What’s particularly interesting about this project is that it’s based on a 2018 short film of the same name created by the talented comedy group 3Peat. With such a strong team behind it, “The Blackening” will surely be a hit with audiences who love a good scare and laugh.
