Players may start receiving frequent glances at what NetherRealm has in store after the developer dropped hints that Kombat Kast may soon be returning to its online home. The release of Mortal Kombat 1 is only a few months away. The franchise’s reboot is already laying the groundwork for a new world that will be led by Liu Kang, how the lives of some of these warriors will be different in this new period, and what other gameplay gimmicks the developer has up their sleeve. A format consisting of a weekly update show is proven to be an ideal model for implementing this for Mortal Kombat. Given the signals that have been posted on social media, it is only a question of when it will return.
Following the release of Mortal Kombat in 2011, the long-running fighting game series has reached its 12th installment with the release of Mortal Kombat 1, which also acts as a second narrative reboot for the universe. The plot picks up after the events of Mortal Kombat 11 and the destruction of Kronika, leaving the recently anointed Fire God Liu Kang to build a new timeline under his command. This is where the tale begins. It has been confirmed that notable regulars like Scorpion, Sub-Zero, and Johnny Cage will return. At the same time, some will take on the role of Kameo Fighters, which are characters chosen before a match to assist players while they are competing.
On Twitter, NetherRealm began dropping hints about the revival of Kombat Kast, prompting many veteran fans to inquire on the official Mortal Kombat account about the possibility of the show’s reappearance. Although the production company has yet to offer additional information, several posts have gotten responses stating that the weekly show would return soon. A Reddit user named Jaimegorevan published a screenshot of one of these comments, which sparked an air of excitement among other users on the platform who are interested in learning more about the game before it is released in September 2023.
Looks like we should expect weekly character reveals to start dropping soon!

Kombat Kast was initially conceived as a medium to advertise the upcoming release of Mortal Kombat X. The program’s purpose was to demonstrate gameplay and regularly unveil new roster members in the months leading up to the game’s launch in April 2015. The show continued for a few more months after that. During that time, it featured battles from the community and debuted downloadable content combatants like Predator and Jason Voorhees. During the time leading up to the release of Mortal Kombat 11 in 2019, NetherRealm made another appearance on the show and used it to market both the game and its characters.
The probable disclosure of Mortal Kombat 1’s cast comes at a time that is beneficial for NetherRealm Studios, which coincides with the return of Kombat Kast. Even though there has been no official confirmation concerning the accuracy of the leaked lineup, players could argue that it gives the studio an incentive to come out ahead of any subsequent leaks. This is because the game’s title and trailer were released shortly before the game was announced.
On September 19, 2023, Mortal Kombat 1, compatible with Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, will be available to the public.
