Recent articles

Ricky Gervais: Armageddon is set to be released on Netflix on December 25th, 2023, marking the British comedian’s third major stand-up special following his previous successes, Humanity and SuperNature. As one of the most highly anticipated comedy specials, Armageddon is bound to be a global hit and is already creating excitement amongst fans and critics.

Controversy and Success

Gervais’s most recent stand-up special, SuperNature, was released in May 2022 and received generally positive reviews. However, it also sparked controversy due to its jokes on trans issues, which led to comparisons with fellow Netflix comedian Dave Chappelle, who also faced criticism for his material. Despite the controversy, SuperNature managed to gain widespread popularity by featuring in the Netflix TV top 10s in 28 countries and the Netflix UK top 10s for 11 days. The special even earned Gervais the prestigious title of Best Stand-Up Show at the National Comedy Awards.

Netflix Collaboration

In 2019, Netflix signed an output deal with Gervais, leading to the release of the final season of the acclaimed series After Life and SuperNature. Gervais has already confirmed that he has two additional projects lined up with Netflix – Armageddon and an as-yet-unannounced series.

Global Release and Twitter Announcement

In an exciting Twitter announcement on November 20th, Gervais revealed that Armageddon is scheduled to be released globally on Netflix on December 25th, 2023. The special, directed by John L. Spencer, was recorded at the London Palladium and had a successful tour, even breaking records for the biggest-ever stand-up at the Hollywood Bowl. Gervais expressed his anticipation for the global release by stating, “For the next 2000 years people will remember the 25th December as the day ‘Armageddon’ was released on Netflix.”

Netflix’s Comedy Specials

Although Netflix is no longer producing as many stand-up specials as before, it continues to collaborate with some of the top comedians in the world. In addition to Gervais, Netflix is working on future specials with renowned comedians such as Chris Rock, Bert Kreischer, Mae Martin, Tom Segura, Hannah Gadsby, and Ali Wong, solidifying its position as a leading platform for stand-up comedy.

As anticipation grows for Ricky Gervais: Armageddon, fans can look forward to an unforgettable Christmas Day with the release of this highly awaited stand-up special.
