It is said that “miracles can happen if you believe.” J. A. Bayona, a filmmaker who has won several awards, has finally returned to making movies in Spanish with his latest survival drama, Society of the Snow. It has been a very long time since he has seen a Spanish-language film. The film is based on the actual story of the fatal Andes aircraft catastrophe that occurred in 1972, which was written by Pablo Vierci. The story focuses on a squad of rugby players from Uruguay who overcame a period of seventy-two days of excruciating agony, acute starvation, and potentially lethal mountain conditions. The fact that sixteen of the forty-five passengers were rescued was a miracle in and of itself. On its own, the accident is frequently seen as a miraculous occurrence.
This is everything we have learned about the Society of the Snow up to this point. They have set their sights on winning an Academy Award in the year 2024.

Is There a Trailer for ‘Society of the Snow’?
On August 24, Netflix made available the very first official teaser trailer for the upcoming film Society of the Snow movie. Due to the fact that it is only little longer than one minute, the initial glimpse of the film does not provide much more than a hint at the terrifying narrative.
The second teaser video for Society of the Snow was released by Netflix on October 20 the previous day. Even though it is only a brief movie, it demonstrates how the Uruguayan Old Christians Club rugby team is delighted as they board Flight 571, but it also shows how worried and afraid they are that the plane is about to crash. Just a few seconds before the jet goes down in the Andes mountains, there is a sudden and profound silence. At this moment, there are no more noises of mayhem, and there is a sense of curiosity around the dreadful events that are about to take place following the catastrophe.
On November 27, 2023, Netflix announced that it will be making available online the complete trailer for the film Society of the Snow.
What Is the ‘Society of the Snow’ Plot?
Vierci’s novel of the same name, which is based on the actual incident of Flight 571 of the Uruguayan Air Force, serves as the inspiration for the film production of Society of the Snow. For a match that was scheduled to take place on October 13, 1971, the Montevideo rugby squad was supposed to travel from Uruguay to Santiago, Chile, via airplane. In spite of this, the plane veered off the runway and crashed into the icy Andes as they were getting closer and closer to their destination. 12 people were killed when the jet crashed into the earth, and many more were injured. Only 16 persons were located after a search and rescue operation that lasted for a total of 72 days. Out of the 29 people that survived, just one of them made it to another day.
In the version that will be available on Netflix, a significant portion of the story will be recounted from the perspective of Numa Turcatti, a rugby player for Uruguay’s Old Christians Club who was aboard the plane that crashed. The film Society of the Snow not only demonstrates how tragic the situation is, but it also aims to convey the lesson that people can be resilient even when they are confronted with the prospect of death.
Society of the Snow, which is available on Netflix, has the following synopsis:
When the Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571, which had been chartered to transport a rugby team to Chile, was involved in a disastrous accident on a glacier in the Andes Mountains in 1972, the tragic event occurred. Due to the fact that only 29 of the 45 passengers survived the accident, they are finding themselves in one of the most difficult situations in the planet, and they are being forced to resort to extreme means in order to stay alive.
Who Is Making ‘Society of the Snow’?
Vierci is the author of the book Society of the Snow, which functions as the foundation for the film adaptation. In addition to being an Italian national, the author and screenwriter who has won several awards was born in Montevideo, who is located in Uruguay. The year 2008 marked the publication of his novel, which is titled Society of the Snow and is also referred to as La Sociedad de la Nieve in Spanish. Vierci has a connection with the individuals who were able to survive the plane catastrophe. One of the other books that he has authored is titled “I Had to Survive: How a Plane Crash in the Andes Inspired My Calling to Save Lives,” which he wrote in collaboration with another individual who was also a victim.
In 2021, it was rumored that J. A. Bayona, a film director from Barcelona, would be in charge of translating the novel into a movie. Bayona now resides in Barcelona. The first indication that the movie was being worked on was this particular placard. In the past, Bayona shared with Netflix the story of how he was introduced to Vierci’s novel. His contributions to films such as Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Fire have enabled him to get a lot of attention.
During the process of making The Impossible, Bayona came across the novel, and she instantly had the idea that she wanted to adapt it into a movie. Bayona shared this information with Netflix. The project was put together over the course of more than ten years, during which time we worked closely with Pablo Vierci to build a strategy for the narrative.
