A group of World of Warcraft fans recently had some fun at the expense of an artificial intelligence bot named “Glorbo” that automatically generates articles by scraping content from the web.

One Reddit user crafted a post on the World of Warcraft subreddit in a way that tricked the AI bot into believing a made-up story about the character “Glorbo,” claiming the character had roots in Warcraft mythology dating back to 1994. Despite the obvious falsehoods, the AI bot fell for the ruse without question.

The Reddit post contained a mix of nonsensical details and emotional elements, building a fictional history for Glorbo. The AI bot took a bit of time to catch on, ultimately producing an unintentionally hilarious article for those in on the joke.

Reddit user kaefer_kriegerin shared their amusement, saying, “The addition of Glorbo to the game has truly made my day. “I hope major news websites publish this bot-generated story.” Other players in the comments section echoed this sentiment.

The BBC also picked up on the prank, noting the absence of clear confirmation that an AI bot was responsible for the story’s creation, yet still reporting on it. However, evidence points to the likelihood of AI involvement, particularly in light of the consistent writing style and volume produced by the unidentified “writer” behind the articles.
