According To The Report, Apple is Preparing a Bid for The Streaming Rights for The English Premier League

According to The Daily Mail, Apple is preparing a bid to obtain the right to stream the English Premier League in the UK.

The British tabloid reports, without identifying its sources, that the tech giant is eager to expand its sports programming by building on the ten-year deal it signed to begin exclusively streaming Major League Soccer on Apple TV+ next month.

Suppose the information in the story is true. In that case, Apple will move up to the fourth-largest contender for the domestic television rights for the top level of soccer (or football, as it is more widely known in the UK).

That would probably result in a significant increase in the domestic EPL rights' present valuation of £5.1 billion ($6.23 billion), which has a three-year renewal cycle. Later this year, tender rights will be renewed, and the current three-year period's rights will terminate in 2025.

In recent years, Sky Sports has frequently been the leading participant in bidding wars between BT Sport, Amazon Prime Video, and Sky Sports.

Packaging conditions, however, guarantee that no one broadcaster receives the rights to every English Premier League game.

Therefore, any agreement reached by Apple for EPL broadcasting rights would unavoidably fall short of the exclusive agreement that was reached with MLS.
