Apple Shifts Focus to AR/VR Headset, Rumor That iOS 17 Will Include "Fewer Major Changes Than Originally Planned"

The upcoming iOS 17 update for the iPhone may not be as significant as Apple had hoped because the company and its engineers are concentrating more on the forthcoming AR/VR headset.

Apple has been developing its AR/VR headset and the xrOS operating system for many years.

According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple's engineers have been less focused on other operating systems, such as the upcoming iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 updates, with the headset launch now expected in 2023.

Gurman claims in his most recent Power On newsletter that due to Apple concentrating more on xrOS for the impending headset, iOS 17, internally known as Dawn, may have "fewer major changes than originally planned."

A similar strategy, according to Gurman, is being used to develop macOS 14, also known as Sunburst.

IOS 14, released in 2020, and iOS 16, released in June of last year, were significant updates that added new features to stock apps like Maps and Safari, a redesigned lock screen, and redesigned widgets to the iPhone Home Screen and App Library.
