Apple Takes Security to the Next Level: Rapid Updates Between Major OS Release

When you update the software on your Apple device to a new version, Apple usually sends you a long list of alerts about all the new features, bug fixes, and security patches.

Apple

But that is about to change because Apple is implementing a new type of faster security update to fix flaws in iPads, iPhones, and Mac computers more quickly.

Apple

The goal is to fix security flaws in devices before hackers can use them. This will be done by reducing the time users wait for a significant update to download and install.

Apple's Rapid Security Responses are meant to "deliver important security improvements between software updates," such as changes to the Safari web browser, the WebKit framework stack, or other essential system tools.

Apple

People who don't want the quick updates or have turned them off will get them with the next release.

Apple

Rapid Security Responses will be sent instantly if you have the most recent version of your software, like iOS 16.4.1, iPadOS 16.4.1, or macOS 13.3.1.

Apple

Go to Settings > General > Software Update > Automatic updates on your iPhone to see if the automatic security steps are turned on.
