The combination of animation with film has a long and fruitful history; in fact, many of the most financially successful films have been animated.

Since the middle of the 20th century, when Disney was unstoppable, through the wonderful run that DreamWorks had in the 2000s, animation has been at the forefront of the thoughts of theatergoers for multiple generations.
