Overwatch 2’s Halloween Event Is A Major Downgrade

From October 25 to November 8, Overwatch 2 has its first-holiday event since it came out earlier this month. This is the 2022 version of its annual Halloween Terror event, which lasts for a week.

Like previous years, Halloween Terror will celebrate the holiday with new skins and a co-op competition based on Junkenstein's Revenge. The mode may sound familiar, but Blizzard has made the map bigger and added more checkpoints and fun bosses this time.

People like that part, but unlocks used to be a big part of what made people want to play. And what's scary about this year's Halloween events in Overwatch is that all of these things that used to be free are now locked behind a pricey battle pass.

Before Overwatch 2 came out in September, the developer made it clear on its blog that each part of its nine-week seasonal model would be tied directly to "a new Battle Pass, each with a different theme and up to 80+ unlockable tiers of cosmetics.

Also, the prices are hard to understand. Fans who wanted to buy healer Kiriko's witchy legendary skin were disappointed that Blizzard said it costs $26 or 2,600 Overwatch Coins and that you can't buy just 600 Coins.

So, you'll need to spend $30 on 3,000 Coins to get close to 2,600. Even though the Halloween skins just came out yesterday, the witch skin is already on sale for 29% less than before, which was 3,700 Coins.

The top YouTube comment on Overwatch 2's Halloween trailer says, "Blizzard did a great job with this year's Halloween event, and the prices of the skins are going to be absolutely terrifying."

League of Legends pro Oskar "Selfmade" Boderek wrote on Twitter, "Halloween terror in Overwatch this year has to be the biggest scam Blizzard has ever made, hahaha."
