When it revealed its desktop silicon, Apple announced desktop keyboards and a Touch ID fingerprint reader. Although having fingerprint access to your computer is convenient, only some people like typing on Apple keyboards.

To keep the fingerprint reader close to the user's hands without having to tape a keyboard under his desk, he removed the logic board from the keyboard and constructed a new 3D-printed enclosure for the Touch ID button and logic board.

The remarkably different logic boards between the standard and Numpad-containing models were one intriguing finding.
