WhatsApp is currently testing a reply bar for status updates that is similar to Instagram's

WhatsApp is testing an Instagram-style reply bar for status updates, a move that further solidifies the integration between WhatsApp and its parent company Meta.

One of the most popular features across these platforms is status updates. WhatsApp offers an Updates tab on both iOS and Android where users can post ephemeral updates as well as view long-term updates from Channels they follow.

Recently, WhatsApp beta testers using the Android version 2.2.26.3 noticed a new Reply bar displayed at the bottom of the screen when viewing status updates. This UI element is persistent, replacing the previous swipe up gesture to initiate a reply.

One important question that arises from this change is the placement of emoji reactions. With Meta potentially replicating the Instagram UI on WhatsApp, it is likely that emojis will appear as soon as the Reply bar is tapped.

Another noteworthy feature that WhatsApp developers have been working on is the ability to share WhatsApp status updates as Instagram Stories with a single tap.

These changes aim to make the process of creating and responding to status updates more convenient and intuitive on WhatsApp.
