Witcher spin-off Thronebreaker gets here on Nintendo Change today

Simply over a month after announcing completion of assistance for Gwent: The Witcher Card Video Game on consoles, CD Projekt Red will release another Witcher spin-off for the Nintendo Change. Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales gets here on the hybrid console on Jan. 28.

Originally executed as a mini-game inside The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, it was ultimately spun out as its own standalone collectible card video game. In April 2018, CD Projekt wrote an open letter to the community assuring a complete relaunch of the franchise. That relaunch was expected to consist of Thronebreaker as a kind of single-player project.

Launched in October 2018 for PC, Thronebreaker was popular by fans and critics alike. It riffs on the standard Gwent format, utilizing cards not simply for battle encounters but for non-combat encounters. Playing it sometimes seems like carrying out a series of creative card techniques.

Thronebreaker is out today via the Nintendo eShop for $1999
