An individual aged 17 is currently in police custody in the UK under suspicion of involvement in a hacking incident. Reports suggest that the arrest is linked to a breach at Rockstar Games, which resulted in a significant leak of details about Grand Theft Auto VI. Additionally, there are indications that the individual may have infiltrated the systems of Uber.

Journalist Matthew Keys has indicated that this arrest follows a collaborative effort between the City of London Police, the UK’s National Cyber Crime Unit, and the FBI. While further details are expected to be released by the police or the FBI later today, the City of London Police has stated that they have no additional information to provide at this time.

The leak related to GTA VI is considered to be a major event in the history of video games. Recently, the hacker responsible for the breach shared a significant amount of content from an early version of the highly anticipated game. Although Rockstar Games typically discloses limited information about their development process, the company verified the authenticity of the leak on Monday. They assured fans that the incident would not disrupt the ongoing work on the game and promised a proper unveiling of the next installment when it is ready.

In a separate security incident, Uber experienced a breach as well. The company has stated that the unauthorized access did not extend to user accounts. However, as of Monday, Uber was still evaluating the extent of the breach. Uber also mentioned the possibility of a connection between this breach and the Rockstar Games incident, suggesting that the same individual or group might be responsible. It was speculated that the perpetrator could be associated with the hacking group called Lapsus$.

Notably, one of the key figures in Lapsus$ is believed to reside in Oxfordshire, coinciding with the location where the 17-year-old suspect was apprehended. Earlier this year, reports from BBC News indicated that a 16-year-old from Oxford, likely the same individual now aged 17, was linked to the group. In March, the City of London Police detained seven teenagers reportedly associated with Lapsus$, although it was uncertain if the Oxford youth was among them. The activities of Lapsus$ have targeted entities such as Microsoft, Okta, and T-Mobile in the past.
