TimeSplitters officially returns, Free Radical Design revives

Recent articles

TimeSplitters, the beloved first-person shooter franchise, is officially back. This morning, Deep Silver (which bought the IP in 2018) announced the resurrection of the historic development team Free Radical Design, with industry veterans Steve Ellis and David Doak working on the original TimeSplitters.

Paul Nicholls, Global Brand and Marketing Director at Deep Silver, commented:

It’s this unique style that has earned the TimeSplitters series a large and passionate following who will, without a doubt, be excited about the formation of Deep Silver’s latest studio and look forward to learning more as the franchise progresses.

Steve Ellis, Studio Development Director at Free Radical Design, added:

To finally be able to confirm that the studio has been formed and that we have a plan for the next TimeSplitters game is unbelievable. While we can’t tell you more at this point, we look forward to sharing information in the future.

The press release makes it clear that development of the new game will begin ‘in the coming months’ as the Free Radical Design team is now focused on building the studio, which will be based in Nottingham, UK.

That means it will probably be several years before we can actually play a new TimeSplitters game, but at least fans of this cult classic can now rest assured knowing that it will be made for real, for sure.
