In the near future, users accessing their PlayStation accounts on the web, in apps, or on PlayStation devices will have the option to use a passkey instead of a traditional password for authentication. This new feature is set to roll out shortly.

The upcoming passkey integration will allow users to log in and verify their accounts using Face ID, Touch ID, or a device passcode on an iPhone. This feature is expected to be implemented today, offering a more secure and convenient login method.

Passkeys are considered to provide enhanced security and convenience compared to passwords. Biometric authentication streamlines the sign-in process and offers protection against common online threats like phishing attacks and password theft since there are no passwords or SMS codes involved. Passkeys also offer resistance to stolen password attempts.

Apple has introduced support for passkeys since 2022, making them available on iOS 16, iPadOS 16, macOS Ventura, and subsequent versions.

Various major companies such as Twitter, Google, PayPal, Best Buy, Microsoft, and eBay have started incorporating passkey support due to the widespread acceptance and security benefits they offer.
